May 2025: Chicago & Milwaukee Trip

Casey, Preston, and Pete managed to pack a perfect blend of high-energy baseball, Disney history, and Chicago’s gritty underworld lore into one trip.  They caught the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at American Family Field. Watching the Brew Crew take on a powerhouse like the Dodgers always brings a postseason atmosphere to the stadium.  There was “Mascot Madness” as they met Bernie Brewer and The Racing Sausages.  Getting face-to-face with the Bratwurst, Polish Sausage, Italian Sausage, Hot Dog, and Chorizo is the ultimate Milwaukee souvenir.  A stop at the Brewers Team Store ensured they walked away with some official gear to commemorate the visit.  The trio headed south to watch the Chicago White Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays at Guaranteed Rate Field.  While the modern stadium is great, they took the time to find the original home plate location for Old Comiskey Park. It’s located in the parking lot (Lot B) just north of the current stadium—standing on that bronze plaque is like standing in a time capsule of baseball history.  This trip included a visit to the Walt Disney Birthplace Home (2156 N. Tripp Ave) in the Hermosa neighborhood.  It’s a humble, beautifully restored wood-frame house designed and built by Walt’s father, Elias.  Seeing where the “Disney Magic” actually began before the family moved to Marceline is a pilgrimage for any fan.  Additionally, they took a somber detour to Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Hillside to pay respects (and perhaps satisfy some curiosity) at the final resting places of Chicago’s most notorious figures: Al Capone: The “Big Fellow” himself, Frank “The Enforcer” Nitti: Capone’s successor, and Sam Giancana: The high-profile boss from the mid-century era.  It sounds like a legendary trip for the books.
